Therapists

Even after working for over 18 years as a massage therapist I still get the question, what made you want to be a massage therapist? I’m not sure there is one certain thing that led me to a career in Massage Therapy. As a child I was forever “fixing” my pets and playing around with pretend potions. So for my adolescent years I thought that I would become a veterinarian and then one day I just decided that Massage Therapy was my new path. At that time I’m not sure what made me make that decision. I know that from years of massaging my family member’s backs and my father regularly seeing a massage therapist was a factor. Beyond that I just l knew that Massage Therapy was the path for me without really knowing why.

Now I realize that it was the amazing gift of being able to relieve someone’s pain and suffering just by massaging a back or neck was what really drew me to this path. I have the ability to brighten someone’s day, create amazing relationships with my clients and a chance to always keep learning.

I am incredibly blessed to be in this profession, every day for me is living my purpose in this world and being at one with my better self.

Katherine (she/her) is a graduate of the Grant MacEwan Massage Therapy Program. She works with her clients to develop a treatment plan that blends well with their goals and lifestyle. She firmly believes in creating a safe and inclusive atmosphere for all of her clients.

Her initial training was in therapeutic and relaxation massage but she has branched out since her graduation in 2008. Early on in her career she trained in Myofascial cupping, a modality she is always delighted to incorporate into treatments depending on the desired outcomes. Shortly after she trained in Schweitzer deep tissue therapy - a modality that changed how she offered deeper massage treatments while still maintaining a relaxing atmosphere. While living in Toronto she took a 300 hour yoga teacher training program, and while she doesn’t teach yoga this provided her with a great deal of insight on how to work with clients in a more active and engaged way. In 2016 she began studying Thai Massage, a great follow-up to yoga teacher training that helped her blend that learning in with her massage practice. Recently, she has been spending more time learning about oncology massage and branching out into new and innovative styles of cupping.

Outside of massage therapy she enjoys her continued studies into permaculture design, herbalism, and language studies.

Lloyd graduated from the Grant MacEwan College Massage Therapy program in 2002 and is a member of the Massage Therapist Association of Alberta. Lloyd graduated from the National Manual Osteopathic College in 2018 with a Diploma for Manual Osteopathy and has the first two levels of CranioSacralTherapy from the Upledger Institute.

Lloyd believes that massage therapy should be seen as a tool that everybody should use to prevent pain and injury and maintain a healthier lifestyle, not just as a quick fix for pain and injuries. He also believes that a therapeutic or deep tissue massage can be relaxing and doesn’t necessarily need to be painful.

Manual Osteopathy, which gently treats the body as a whole instead of individual symptoms, will allow Lloyd to continue on his path of gently guiding and correcting the body towards less pain and better health.

When Lloyd isn’t working or spending time with his wife, son and daughter, he enjoys playing trombone with the Festival City Winds or relaxing with a good book.
