Bao Massage - ❄️February Newsletter❄️
I hope this newsletter finds you in good health and high spirits! As we navigate through the winter season, it's not uncommon to notice an uptick in low back issues, a concern I've seen echoed in many of my sessions this month.
The Low Down on Low Back Health: Winter tends to make us more sedentary, which can lead to tightened hip flexors, overstretched hamstrings or weaken abdominals. As someone who grapples with low back issues personally, I understand the complexity of this area. The abdominals play a crucial role in supporting the low back, and if they're weakened or shortened, it can lead to additional stress on this fickle region. While massage therapy provides relief, incorporating movement into your routine becomes the anchor for maintaining optimal low back health.
Let's talk about workouts - while Pilates and yoga are my personal favorites, I've come to acknowledge the undeniable importance of strength-based exercises for my overall physical health. (Translation: I may not love them, but alas they are good for me.)
For those of us who can't always hit the gym or hire a personal trainer, there's a world of workout options available, and personally, I prefer sweating it out in the comfort of my own home. Here are a few YouTube channels that I turn to for engaging exercises:
Yoga with Adrienne: A familiar name for those who've been with me through previous newsletters. Adrienne's workouts and dog have a special place in my heart - Link to her channel.
Go Chlo: A physiotherapist and Pilates master instructor, Chlo brings both knowledge and variety to her channel - Link to her channel.
The Fitness Marshall: If you're into dance, big personalities, and a good time, this is the channel. I often jump into their short dance videos after a brisk walk and a bit of stretching - Link to their channel.
Remember, if a full workout seems like a daunting task, a simple walk can do wonders. Moving your body is one of the most important activities for your health.
Always stay within your physical limits! You should not experience pain or joint discomfort. Don't forget to consult your healthcare professionals before embarking on any workout regimen, especially if you have pre-existing conditions. Your health is a journey, and every small step counts!
Informed Consent
Moving forward, you will notice an Informed Consent waiver when scheduling your next massage on Schedulicity. You will have to accept this waiver before you are able to book any appointments. If you have any concerns around this please reach out to me. I kindly ask you to take a moment to thoroughly read through this waiver, I know that it is a bit long but it is important.
Your understanding and acknowledgment of this consent are key to ensuring that our sessions are tailored to your specific needs at the highest level of safety for both of us. Please be assured that consent is always voluntary and can be withdrawn at any point during the massage treatment.
I am constantly striving to enhance my communication, and this presents a valuable opportunity for you to be informed about potential outcomes and any relevant considerations. Your well-being is my top priority, and I believe that being well-informed contributes to a more enriching and safe experience for both of us.
Herbalism Milestone:
